**University of Iowa Basketball History: A Timeline** **1987-1989:** George Raveling becomes the first African-American head coach in Big Ten history. **1991-1993:** The Iowa Hawkeyes reach the Sweet Sixteen under the guidance of assistant coach Tom Davis. **1996-1997:** The Hawkeyes make it to the Elite Eight under the leadership of coach Steve Alford. **1999:** Fran McCaffery is hired as the head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes. **Present:** McCaffery has led the Hawkeyes to 10 NCAA Tournament appearances, including two Sweet Sixteens and one Elite Eight.
